Remedy

Growing up, worship music was produced by one group - David Crowder * Band. I couldn't get enough of them. Still can't really... which is too bad since they closed up shop a couple years back.
David is still writing and recording. It's still good music... but it's missing a bit of that special David Crowder Band something.

Anyway, I've been going through their discography recently and was reminded of the song Remedy.

It's a really cool song. Very minimalistic in it's instrumentation. Just a simple piano and banjo line with a bit of drums. Sure it builds, but the first 2 minutes are a breezy, enjoyable ride.

Lyrically, like all Crower Band songs, is where it really shines. It's a song about our "sickness". That sickness being sin. Our need of a cure and how Jesus is that cure. The thing I love most about it is the closing of the song. Through the violin swells and soft banjo plucks, the song turns into a prayer. A prayer for God to use us to be a remedy to a sick world.

It something I've been thinking and praying about a lot recently. How can God use me to be a "salve" to the world. It's easy to sit on the sidelines and comment about other people's issues. But how can we help? So I guess I'm liking this song for more than one reason!

Texting

There are a lot of things I love about my Smartphone. It's basically a pocket computer. Awesome!

It's also very easy to zone out of reality and into my phone. A few years ago I decided that whenever I'm out socially, the phone stays in my pocket.

Will I answer if it rings? Yes. Will I check a text? Yes. But I won't respond to a text unless it's an emergency. Call me old fashioned, that's just how I roll.

Really, the truth is, if I'd rather be talking to the person I'm texting than the person I am 4 feet away from... why am I bothering to hang out with that person at all?

If you've ever felt the same, this video should strike a cord with you!

Love In The Air

With Valentine's in the air I thought I would get a little sappy this week... by listing the top 873 reasons my American girlfriend is so awesome.

I'm kidding... though I do plan to do something "romantic."

Disney put together this short film a little while ago ( I believe it ran before Wreck It Ralph).
It uses a combo of classic cartooning and modern computer animation.
I like a story that can be told without words. This is one of those tales.
Looks, movements and the (awesome) soundtrack (seriously, 5:15's music gave me chills) do all the talking on this one.

Enjoy!

*Note - I will not be held liable if your paper airplanes don't have nearly the same effect on your prospective girl friend/boyfriend*

Christmas Music

It seems every year Christmas comes earlier for me. This year, I've been singing Sleigh Ride since early October.
I'm not complaining, I just love Christmas.
I also tend to have "Christmas Theme Songs" every year.
Two years ago it was "O Come O Come Emmanuel"
Last year it was "War Is Over" (both of which are awesome songs)
This year it seems to be "Love Came Down At Christmas"

We seem to always focus on the fact that Jesus was born to die. Which is profound and all, but we often forget the motivation behind that. It was love.

As Francis Chan/Hawk Nelson would say, Crazy Love. That God would care enough about us, despite us spiting in his face, to send his son as a human to die. That is true love.

That's what I think every time this songs come across my mind.

Merry (early) Christmas

Valentine's Day

I've never been a fan. It seems wrong on a lot of levels. Do we only show we love someone on one day of the year? Can't we everyday? Do we have to get chocolates?
It seems to me to be what most people complain about with Christmas. Over commercialization.

That... and it's all based on a rather grizzly death.

Or, maybe I'm just acting like this guy...

Either way.

Happy Valentine's Day!
